It has been thought time and again that Shih Tzu dogs are enormously quick. The most central thing for them is to thrill their dog parents, so they are vastly aware of their achievement and failures in terms of instruction. On the downside, this distinct breed of dog is, well - all over the place and distracted at the drop of a hat until they are over 2 months old. No doubt you have read that it is urgent to commence training your puppy as soon as they arrive at your house; well, this is not the situation with Shih Tzu puppies since they will not settle down enough for any real meaningful training until they are nearer to three months.
Shih Tzu puppies are exceedingly edgy and have little to no bladder control until they are 10 weeks old. Up to this point you are better served by keeping them in a controlled spot with newspapers on the floorboards and regulating their eating and drinking times of the day. You will know it is time to begin the potty training lessons when they pee and do number two at regular times of the day. Puppies are not much different from humans as they will want to go do there business when they wake up and most likely about twenty minutes after they have a meal in the morning. Do not try and regulate when they go by only giving them water two times a day. Your puppy needs access to lots of water all through the day. Feed them one time in the morning and once about 3 hours before bedtime.
As we talked about prior, Shih Tzu puppies are very excitable and fun-loving so you will need to spend quality time in there first few weeks a life; paraphrase - lots of fun time! You may say what does this have to do with training...it serves to increase the tie between the puppy and dog parent. When you designate where your puppy can go in the home they begin to grasp their secondary role and your role of pack leader. Since your pet knows you are the person in charge, he will abide by you when you give commands and will be glad to please you. When you do start training, avoid unconstructive criticism. You want to remember the Shih Tzu will suffer colossal grief if it senses its owner is not pleased with their conduct, so just be aware of their sensitive side.
Admire your puppy when they do something correct. A straightforward but resolved "no" should be adequate when they do something not right. Or try using a noisy rattle to startle the puppy; a tin can with marbles in it works very well. These guidelines should stop your puppy from continuing with their unpleasant habits and encourage them to do what is required.
